Case Study Overview
When a major regional power utility needed to expand a substation on an active transmission corridor, they turned to Tricon’s Facility Construction team to handle the full scope from steel erection to mechanical tie-ins — all without interrupting live grid operations.
Our crews self-performed structural steel erection, mechanical system installs, and complex piping work while coordinating multiple contractors and vendors under a tight regulatory window. Daily planning meetings and clear scopes kept every trade aligned. The project site posed several challenges, including limited access, tight staging areas, and a no-downtime mandate for surrounding equipment.
Tricon’s experienced foremen and QA/QC teams managed sequencing, material delivery, and real-time problem-solving to keep work moving safely. Thanks to our integrated safety approach and foreman-led oversight, the substation expansion was delivered ahead of schedule with zero recordables and full compliance with utility standards. The utility now benefits from increased grid capacity and improved reliability — and they have a trusted construction partner for future expansions.
Safety & QA Commitment

FAQs
Find answers to common questions about our services and how we can assist you.
Does Tricon self-perform its work, or do you subcontract your projects?
Tricon proudly self-performs the majority of our work. From civil and structural foundations to mechanical installation and fabrication, our in-house crews handle every phase of construction with the precision, safety, and accountability that only a self-performing contractor can deliver.
Because we control our own manpower, equipment, and scheduling, we’re able to maintain tighter quality control, faster response times, and safer, more predictable results on every project. When specialized trades are needed, we selectively partner with proven subcontractors who meet our same high standards — but our core execution always starts and ends with Tricon crews.
In short: we don’t just manage projects — we build them.
